MySQL 5.0 is now officially stable

Posted on October 25, 2005, 1:10 am EST

The leading and most popular opensourced vendor, MYSQL AB, has told the world that version 5.0 is out of its beta stage and ready for production use.

The downside of MySQL from the past was that it didn't have that much functionality of other DBMS. But in the other side, it was the most known to be the fastest relational database every existed.

MySQL 5.0 is the most significant product upgrade in the company's ten-year history. "We are quite proud to deliver this new version of MySQL -- as it includes the most-requested features from our users, customers and partners," said Marten Mickos, CEO of MySQL AB. "With their feedback, we have been able to provide important enterprise-class features while staying true to MySQL's renowned heritage of high-performance, reliability and ease-of-use."

I am very excited to hear this and now I truely believe MySQL is the best DBMS out there. I trust it on, reliability, flexibility, efficiency, and now its new functionality.

Some of its new key features are:

  • Stored Procedures and SQL Functions -- to embed business logic in the database and improve performance
  • Triggers -- to enforce complex business rules at the database level
  • Views -- to ensure protection of sensitive information
  • Cursors -- to allow easier database development and reference of large datasets
  • And much more!

Hopefully now everyone wont complain that MySQL has no trigger functionality and Procedures, cause now they proved to the world that they are truely #1.
